This past weekend was Gay and Lesbian Pride Weekend in L.A., or as I like to call it, Just Try To Get Parking in West Hollywood Weekend.
This year, the Cute Little Red-Headed Girlfriend and I set out early on Sunday to attend the Los Angeles Frontrunners Pride Run 2004. Yes, it was a proud event, and a benefit for a good cause, but that's not why we went. We went because Lucy Lawless, former Xena: Warrior Princess and present-day goddess was scheduled as the celebrity host to kick off the run.
Aside from the fact that the girlfriend and I are big Xena fans, it was a real pleasure to see a female celebrity address her lesbian followers. We've all seen musical celebrity divas get lovey-dovey with their gay male fans, or male movie stars "acknowledging" their gay male fans, but what do the lesbians ever get? Crapola, that's what.
No female stars ever say, "I'd like to thank all my lesbian fans for faithfully going to see every one of my movies, even the really shitty ones like Sommersby" or "Thanks to all you dykes out there for padding my royalty checks over the years with your home video and DVD purchases of The Hunger." No, you just don't hear it. But Lucy has always been really cool about her lesbian fans, and we do worship her cravenly for it.
After Lucy announced the run, as shown in the picture here, she hung out with her "Xena posse," as she called us, signing autographs and chatting us up.
Very early on, the Cute Little Red-Headed Girlfriend came down with a case of "Lucy Haze," a condition which I believe to be a modern-day variant of the condition once known as "the vapors." It really was overstimulating being around Lucy for so long. You can see just how close we were in the other picture I've posted, which shows Lucy giving us girls what we've always wanted.

Wow, T
You outdid yourself. I want you to know I was drinking red wine when I read the last line and I laughed so hard I sprayed it all over the new laptop screen. Hope you're not mad. I'm having difficulty seeing as I write this comment because it looks like blood dripping down.
Speaking of which, I am in a Lucy haze. What's a girl to do? Can't think of nothing but LaLuce. It isn't everyday we get to meet themostbeautifulgirlinthewholewideworld. I know I've driven you crazy with Lucy but unless you can come up with some anti-Lucy drugs, it's a condition that will last until - it goes away - which might be tomorrow or til the end of time. Who knows - where the time goes? The Shadow do.

What a great post, T. And you even got TCLRG to finally read and post online again! I loved her little message to start the posting off, too.
Great photos of LaLuce, too. I was down there just after the race started so I missed her. She looks great though.
No female stars ever say, "I'd like to thank all my lesbian fans for faithfully going to see every one of my movies, even the really shitty ones like Sommersby"
Priceless. This is why I come back to In Sequence over and over again. Kind of like TCLRG does for LaLuce. :)

That's Lucy Lawless?
Geez, what a difference a couple of years out of the spotlight makes!
Not that she still doesn't look great, but she just looks...different...that's all!

Great pics! Especially that one "giving us girls what we've always wanted." I'm jealous.
My wife would have reacted the same way over Renee O'Connor that your girl does over Lucy. She'd be mouth breathing, I tell ya.

GREAT blog about Lucy. What was she wearing around her neck, a giant gummi bear?! :) It sounds like you had a great time!

Great report.
She's wearing a Tiki - it's a Maori (NZ). Tiki in Maori personifies primeval man. Powerful good luck symbol. The tilted head symbolises thinking, the hand is strength, the mouth
is communication, the heart is love and the loins are fertility. (according to my friend Calli in NZ)

I have to say I adore Lucy Lawless but I found your end comment, (giving us girls what we've always wanted)rather offensive! I know it's done with humour but not all us girls enjoy speaking about Lawless in such a derogative way.

Plinko,
It's a good thing you didn't say it then, isn't it?

This is my first visit to your blog. Great posts! Love it!
Thanks for the Lucy report. I always dream of attending these events, but alas life doesn't want to comply and support my Lucy obsession! Lucy looks great and the 'what we've always wanted' shot is priceless!
I completely understand the Lucy Haze, although in my case it was an outright Lucy Panic Attack! When I went to see her on Broadway in NYC, my friend and I waited outside after the show, and on my first tiny glimpse of her, I high tailed it down the street in sheer panic.*LOL* Luckily, my friend was very supportive, and we managed to go back the next night to get the autograph!
I can't wait to check out the rest of your blogs!
Cheers and best regards from New Brunswick, Canada!
